Theme: Renewed Hope In Structure

On February 5, 2026, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, officially launched the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) at the State House in Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President declared this $540 million initiative a “strategic investment in Nigeria’s economic infrastructure,” signaling a transition from fragmented social interventions to institutionalized economic inclusion aimed at empowering 25 million women.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, described the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic infrastructure and advancing structured economic inclusion for women across the country.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the official launch held at the State House, Abuja, the President emphasized that empowering women is central to national stability, economic growth, and sustainable development. He noted that meaningful national progress cannot be achieved if women are marginalized, adding that his administration remains committed to placing women at the forefront of decision-making and leadership in key development initiatives.

Core Objectives of NFWP-SU

The Scale-Up builds on the success of the pilot phase (2018–2024), which established over 26,000 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) and saved approximately ₦4.9 Billion. The new phase aims to:

• Reach 5 Million Women Directly: Targeted support across all 36 states and the FCT, with an estimated indirect impact on 25 million Nigerians.

• Institutionalize WAGs: Transforming local affinity groups into bankable, women-led institutions capable of independent financial growth.

Leadership and Implementation

The program is spearheaded by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who emphasized that the launch signifies that women are no longer “peripheral beneficiaries” but primary drivers of Nigeria’s stability.

The Implementation is led by National Coordinator, Dr. Hadiza Maina.
